Even though I love my Nikon Monarch very much, birding binoculars are just not too right for astronomy. That’s why I need to have another pair for watching the stars and constellations.
Astronomy is a similar yet different thing from birding, I find; both can be done together with family, both can be done alone, and both will open your senses to the beautiful nature. Yet, birds are searched for, but stars are always there like glittering diamonds on black velvet. It really depends whether you’ll be able to see all of them with a pair of good astronomy binoculars.
Advantages of Astronomy Binoculars:
- If you spent some time reading my Guide to Binoculars Specifications or best binoculars recommendations, you’d know what is the most important thing a good pair of astronomy binoculars can offer you. But if you didn’t, then you probably didn’t know that it is bright and clear images. Bright and clear images are very important when you’re out there in the ultimate darkness compared to when you’re looking at birds in daylight or concerts with bright lights on.
- In good weather conditions, it is possible to see globular clusters and nebulae.
My Recommendation:
Nikon Action 10 x 50 – Best Astronomy Binoculars

Nikon 7218 Action 10 X 50mm Binoculars
This is the best binoculars for astronomy I’ve come across. Nikon Action 10 x 50 has the quality all Nikon precision optical products offer and this pair has all the great features for watching the night sky. Nikon Action 10 x 50 has a wide exit pupil, multicoated lenses and good quality prisms, all of which will give you bright and clear images.
This pair is also tripod adaptable. I agree very much with one reviewer who said that your arms would begin to tire before you are willing to tear your gaze away from the beautiful view, so get that adapter and tripod too. Besides, a magnification of 10 is not too easy to hold steady in bare hands.
The quality of the housing is good too, with a smooth armored body. The eye relief is 11mm which is ample for the average eyeglass wearer.
As for its price, Nikon Action 10 x 50 is undeniably more expensive than the other brands models which have the same 10 x 50 specs, but plenty who have tried two or more brands would agree with me that this model has the better crisp and sharp images others can’t provide. It all depends whether you want to see all the stars (possible to see, strictly speaking) or just some stars.
